It's weird to wake up, open the drapes of your room, and be eye level with someone walking their dog on the banks of the Danube! Good thing I had a nightgown on! We docked early, did a fast walk to the oldest bridge in town, and returned in time for our guided tour.

Ok, that was yesterday, and all I really remember is finishing with lunch at the local famous sausage cafe and how good the sausages and beer were! So call me shallow, but I have a satisfied tummy. We had a lovely conversation with two cyclists from France, then a German woman visiting her daughter. All knew enough English to share some great stories.

| Love the model in the center of town! |
Oscar Schindler lived here for a couple of years.
The afternoon was spent on a bus to the Weltenburg Abbey, the oldest brewery in the world, started in the 1100's. Now that's some aged beer! We didn't really get a very good tour of the place, though the church on the grounds was spectacular. We walked to a nearby ferry, and rode through the Gorge until the rain forced us to take shelter below deck. We did get to taste the Weltenburg beer, and Jane and I decided we had to buy a 6-pack while there. You just never know where your next beer is coming from. The rain continued, so we hunkered down on the ship, ate and enjoyed dinner with the company of new friends from England.

Not much of a tour of the brewing facilities,
but we all got a beer and a pretzel! |

| The church at Weltenburg Abbey. Frank thought this was the most beautiful church we'd seen so far. |

| The ferry rode through the gorge was gorgeous! |
Pam, Jane, and I decided to check out the entertainment that evening, and it turned out to be a tenor, soprano, and mezzo soprano singing some fun arias for the crowd. We all loved it, they engaged the crowd, sang to them, sat in their laps, and by golly, had wonderful voices! Ok, we are on the way to Austria, so they had to sing all the songs from the Sound of Music. The mezzo did a fine job with the yodeling. Our ship headed out around 10pm, so sleep in the cool, gently rocking boat came quickly.
